Rs 90 Lakhs for TV broadcast rights
- 02.01.2008
For the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema, the TV broadcast rights of a film is being sold at a price of Rs 90 Lakhs! Credit for this achievement goes to 'Roudram'.
Even before the release of the film, a private satellite TV channel has bought the rights of the film for this massive amount. Mammooty is starring in this film directed by Ranji Panikker. This is going to be a big boost for Malayalam film producers who always complain that the films don't have that many revenue-generating options.
The TV channel that has bought the broadcast rights will be bound by stipulation that they shouldn't telecast the film within a certain period of time from its date of release.
The only film that is poised to beat this record is director Hariharan's 'Pazasshiraja'. The film isn't even complete yet and channels are already willing to pay Rs 1 Crore for the broadcast rights. Now that 'Roudram' has come close to it, the prices of 'Pazasshiraja' will go even higher.
