'Novel' letdown?
- 18.01.2008
A lot was expected from Jayaram and his new film 'Novel'. It had a very well-known heroine from Tamil. East Coast Vijayan, who had made a name for himself in conducting star-nite shows abroad, was making his debut as a director with this film.
Finally, when the film hit the theatres, everybody was disappointed as usual. Critics say that the story would have suited more for a short-film and not a 2 hours 30 minute long film.
Jayaram plays the role of a writer, who, during an interview, opens his heart and pours all the tragedy out. He is stuck in a bad marriage with a woman who is after his money and wouldn't even divorce him. He runs into a beautiful singer named Priyanandinee and ends up falling in love with her. He gets her the breaks and she becomes a very well-known singer.
So deep is his love for her that she inspires him to write books, one of which wins him an award. Just as she appeared, she disappears from his life mysteriously too.
The biggest problem with the story is that it crawls. May be Jayaram will find his elusive big hit in 'Saroja', the new Tamil film.
