Best Films of 2007
- 31.12.2007
64 films were released this year. Probably for the firs time in decades, films were known more for their directors than the stars themselves.
Sathyan Andhikaat, Lal Jose and Shafi were the celebrities of the year. Blessy made headlines for the wrong reasons. Sathyan Andhikaat took a big risk and made a fabulous hit with 'Vinodayatra'. Shafi scored two big hits this year with 'Maayavi' and the biggest blockbuster of the year.
Lal Jose took a big and impulsive risk with 'Arabikatha'. It was an excellent direction and convincing performance from Shrinivasan that made the film a surprise hit.
Anwar Rasheed returned with his second big hit- 'Chota Mumbai', which had Mohanlal in the role of an endearing gangster and Bhavana as an auto-driver! Rafi Mecartin made the other Mohanlal hit 'Hallo', which had him in the role of a drunkard advocate on a self-destruction mode whose life changes for better after a wrong call...
Shaji Kailash was a regular with his murder mysteries. 'Nadia Kollapatta Rathri' worked. 'Boots' became 'Sound of Boots' and got delayed. He is now in Tamil with the remake of 'Chintamani Kola Case'.
Blessy wouldn't have been happy with the way his 'Palunku' turned out at the box office. It was released towards the end of 2006, but the results were out only in the next year. So, he is more than just careful with his new film 'Kolkotta News'.
However, the film of the year easily is 'Chocolate', director Shafi's film with Prithviraj. The director always prefers making films with superstars. For a change, he decided to make one with young Prithviraj. It worked.
The film had created record when a Mumbai-based production company paid a massive Rs 1 Crore for remake rights in 11 languages!
